I was already in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in critical condition after having open heart surgery. The doctor informed my family that there was a chance I might not make it through the night, so they remained by my side. My father Jose was sitting in the family room having just returned from getting something to eat, when he heard the announcement "Code Blue: ICU Bed 3."

That was my bed, and my dad immediately got up and ran to the ICU front desk where hospital staff screen and buzz in guests. Soon a nurse came through a door bringing my dad into the ICU, and as they walked down the hallway she explained to him how it's important that he remain calm so the medical team can do there work without interruption. She asked him to believe in them.

Upon his arrival to my area, people were rushing from left and right with intravenous bags, needles and other equipment. I went into cardiac arrest at 12:17 p.m. on November 14, 2008. Not yet "out the woods," I actually slipped into another episode on November 16, 2008 at 9:07 p.m., in which I was clinically dead for a few minutes after several failed attempts of CPR. But the doctors did not give up on me. I was saved by the trauma team and most of all the nurses and doctors in the ICU at Orlando Regional. I thank them all.

I am still living with problems, but I am still here with my family and children. The reason why I have heart disease at such a young age is still unknown.
